2011: Just My Two Cents

Ten days into the new year, and I'm just now sitting down to articulate my goals for 2011.  Hmmm.

I mentioned the winds of change a few posts back.  This will indeed be a year of such.  I'll be sending my daughter, my oldest, off to college.  That's big.  Correction: HUGE.  I can't even imagine what that will look like for us, so I won't speculate.  Just suffice to say I know it will be different.  But beyond that HUGE change, I'm feeling the need, the desire, to shift professionally.  I'm afraid to put too much out there about this (yes, AFRAID), so y'all will have to encourage me to hear more. :)

Looking back on 2010, I achieved most of my goals that I laid out here on the blog!  I was actually surprised when I went back and read that post (*pat on the back!*).  I'm most proud of completing my half-marathon in October, I have to say.  But I pretty much did all that I set out to do. I find that encouraging for what I'll lay out here for 2011.

  • Finish both novels I have in the works.  One is closer than the other.  Last year's went into a major revision over the summer that has yet to be fleshed out completely.  My 2010 Nano novel is actually quite close. *golf clap*  Let me know if you're interested in being a reader for this one, as I intend to finish it first.
  • Begin the querying process for my finished novel (requires that the above goal be achieved!).
  • Take a writing workshop.  I just discovered some good ones at Coffeehouse for Writers that won't be too terribly time intensive, but would be beneficial in my writing.
  • Redesign at least one of my blogs.  I'll start with Show Some Decor.  And here's why:
  • Expand my home decor interest into a business that encompasses my blog and physical retail space in the form of a booth at an antique mall.  This is Step One of a potentially major change.
  • Catch up on the cosmetic remodels around the house, i.e. painting and refreshing tired or dated spaces.
  • Stay one step ahead of the clutter.  This is actually an enormous challenge for me. *Encouraging words needed!*
  • Ramp up the exercise regimen a bit.  El Presidente and I will be rejoining a gym this month, so this will be easier than it was last year.  I do so much better when I have a variety of activities from which to choose.
  • Become a better photographer!  I have an awesome new camera and I'm excited to see what "we" can do together.
  • Embrace with courage all the changes coming my way this year.
  • Live each and every moment of those changes to the fullest.
Ok, you've heard My Two Cents, so now it's your turn.  What are some of your goals?  Any encouragement or advice for me on my goals?

Love these goals! I struggle sometimes to set aside time for writing, especially because it feels like there's so many other "must do's" that come first! (Cleaning, running, work, life, etc.) One of my resolutions is to "allow myself" (because it's true: writing is a luxury I allow myself) 45 minutes a day of writing. It sounds less daunting than setting aside an hour, plus it's still plenty of time to be productive!

Good luck on all your goals! :)

I actually try not to have goals other than becoming a happy, relaxed, free person! And the rest will take care of itself, I hope, haha!!!! We did ramp up our exercise routine though as well -power walking up and down the hill across the road 3 times a week. It's convenient enough that we actually do it..., and miss it if we don't. So I'm really happy with that. And I'd also love to have my mini business (blog) grow and refresh my living room! May our lives continue to increase! Now... I'm going to check what's up on your design blog!!
